Opening Night

Sitting at the back of the house tonight, I got to watch not only the actors, but also the audience for opening night of The Margaret Ghost. It was wonderful to share this very special play with them and to see and hear them picking up on the humor of it and really enjoying the moments that we have worked so hard to make seem so effortless.

The laughs were appreciated. The audience wasn't large, but it was very warm and engaged and laughed easily, from the first moments of the show. There were so many good moments and memorable bits that I can't even begin to list them all. But perhaps my favorite was the climactic scene between [livejournal.com profile] heliopsis and [livejournal.com profile] desireearmfeldt, when the audience was completely silent. No one moved, no one coughed, they were all caught up in the tension of that moment, in Waldo's impassioned speech. Their release at Margaret's wry rejoinder was palpable and I knew in that instant that we had them, that they had really gotten what we were trying to communicate.

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] petra_quince, [livejournal.com profile] zendzian, [livejournal.com profile] dpolicar, [livejournal.com profile] hotpoint, [livejournal.com profile] chanaleh, [livejournal.com profile] jason237, [livejournal.com profile] heliopsis, [livejournal.com profile] trowa_barton, and especially [livejournal.com profile] desireearmfeldt on a wonderful opening night and to all of the crew--Judy and [livejournal.com profile] alfie1981, [livejournal.com profile] audioboy, [livejournal.com profile] bex77, [livejournal.com profile] vanguardcdk and all of our fabulous volunteers, but especially to [livejournal.com profile] muffyjo for a technically flawless run. Thanks to everyone who came out to start us off on such a great note. I hope we'll have the chance to share it with many more of you before the weekend is over. Personally, I can't wait to see it again tomorrow night!
