It's funny the classes that stay with us. For me it was Folk Songs as Social History, taught by Tony Barrand at BU. He was an amazing teacher -- I took all of his classes as electives, which included one on Morris dancing and a class called "Stalking the Wild Mind: The Psychology and Folklore of Extra-Sensory Perception and Psychic Phenomena". But this class taught me a lot about how much we can learn from everything around us, including (maybe especially) music, and that simple things are often worth examining more deeply. I think I worked harder in his classes than any in my major, but I learned more from them.
