The first night of auditions went reasonably well. We got about ten people, all of whom were really quite good. I don't think I've seen an audition pool of such high quality before, but perhaps I'm more critical when I'm competing with the other actors. I had asked for Shakespearean monologues and got a wide and interesting variety of pieces. Cold readings varied, too--some people really picked up on the language and how the scenes are supposed to work, while others...not so much. One of the interesting things that I learn again and again is that actors' biggest mistake is talking too fast.

Now I just cross my fingers that I get an equally good crowd tomorrow. Then I'd actually be able to cast the show.
