Soul-delay

I'm reading Pattern Recognition by William Gibson. If its early promise holds true, it might be my favorite of his books. I think this is because his work is always very densely packed, but it's usually not about things that really interest me, and this time it is.

The main character is experiencing a lot of jet lag, which she thinks of in terms of soul-delay. I really like this metaphor, because that's exactly how it feels to me. As if I'm not entirely there yet, that some part of me has not yet caught up, that something is linking me to the place where I was the last time I saw the sun.

And yes, the jag is over, although a certain pensiveness remains.
