For the first time in more than a decade, I'm going to be on stage! [livejournal.com profile] dpolicar has cast me in "My Boyfriend's Wife," one of the plays in Summer Splash: Theatre@First's 2nd Annual Evening of One-Acts. I'll be playing Raina a/k/a The Dead Wife to [livejournal.com profile] gilana's Dodie a/k/a The Live Girlfriend. I'm looking forward to acting again and to working with these excellent folk and being part of the cast for a change.

Auditions were fun and frustrating and intimidating and validating. We got a huge turnout (37 is the number being bandied about, which blows our old total out of the water) of wonderfully talented people. The process was a bit of a zoo, with seven directors all trying to figure out what they wanted from watching people do other plays than theirs and trying to be sure that everyone did get to read at least once. I'm excited to see the full cast list and to work with some new people, but also sad because I realize that many talented people were not cast. I hope I can get a good number of them back for Merry Wives in the fall.

I'm very pleased to be cast, of course, and in the role that I would have cast myself, but I'm even more pleased with my audition. I think I did well--several people made a point of telling me so, which was kind and generous of them--and I was really relieved that all my acting muscles haven't atrophied and may even have developed further during my time out of the footlights. I'm looking forward to continuing to explore that over the next couple of months. Guess I should start working on my lines.
