I started to write this last night and got too sleepy and my phone ate it, so I'm gonna just share my notes and maybe fill it in more later.

- Alice Springs.
Stayed at Alice in the Territory, an ok hotel. Dinner at Epilogue Lounge including the best streak I've had in Australia. Breakfast at Page 27 Cafe, very funky. Alice Springs Desert Park, lots of birds, red kangaroos, amazing Nocturnal House.

-King's Canyon. Long drive. Gorgeous room with spa tub. Underwhelming dinner at their bar & grill. Total lunar eclipse in the morning. Hiked the King's Canyon Creek Walk and Kathleen Spring Walk and hit the road by 11.

- Uluru & Kata Tjuta. Stayed at Sails in the Desert, at the high end of the range of accommodations in the Voyages Ayers Rock Resort. Lunch at the pool bar, Alice got in but it wasn't really warm enough to swim. Wandered the Town Square shops and Jason did a digeridoo workshop. Sounds of Silence experience: drinks and sunset view of Uluru followed by very good buffet dinner in the desert, seated with German family and group of young Thai women from Melbourne. Lecture about the stars, saw the Southern Cross.

Next day amazing breakfast buffet then visited the Cultural Center at Uluru. Did the Mala Walk guided tour and then the Kuniya Walk on the other side of the rock. Very interesting stories from the local clans. Drove all the way around the rock--fascinating, awe-inspiring. Noodles for lunch at Town Square and afternoon hanging out at the resort. Talked to steve for the first time all trip, then had a massage and on-the-table pedicure. Dinner at Ilkari buffet, excellent but somewhat rushed for time before 7pm departure for Field of Light at installation of 50,000 glowing bulbs in the desert. Cool, but overshadowed by the amazing moon.

Next day up early to catch sunrise at Kata Tjuta--stunning. Walked to the first lookout in the Valley of the Winds and then did the Walpa Gorge walk. Knee was hurting, but Jason managed to loosen it up and it's been fine since. Got lunch at the Desert Springs Hotel and then headed to the airport for the flight to Cairns.
