Ah...wow. Thanks for that. I like to think I'm a fairly intuitive person - quick to apologize and admit mea culpa but I certainly violate #1 a lot.
I don't get defensive in that I don't take responsibility but I go on at length about the circumstances and sometimes fall off The Cliff of WoezMei to the point of where I'm sure my apologee (?) is rolling their eyes by the end.
