Would anyone like to buy our Kitchen Aid mixer? It's basically brand new--I think I've used it five times or fewer. I have intentions of using it more often but (ok, this is a little embarrassing) it's cobalt blue and our kitchen is red & white. It looks like they go for somewhere in the $100-150 range, so make me an offer.

Alternately, if anyone has a red or white one in reasonably good condition and would like to swap for a blue one, let me know!

Ours is hardly brand new, but it is red and works well. Just made five pounds of challah dough in it last week!

Interesting. We don't own a mixer, but I can see that having one would lead to increased use. Kind of like the propane torch; you never think you need one but once you have it all sorts of opportunities open up.

From burning off rusted bolts to making a creme boule to lighting a fire in the fireplace, the uses of a propane torch are just about endless.

Hell yes, we'd love to buy a barely-used KitchenAid at that price! (Offering $125, does that seem reasonable?) The price tag has been what's stopping me from getting one.

And Nick adds, "We would love to help you out with your #firstworldproblem" :D :D

Thanks, but it turns out that [livejournal.com profile] muffyjo has a white one to swap, so I'm gonna go for that.

They seem to be available used online in the same range, so if you do want one, they're out there.

And please extend my thanks to Nick, as well :) I do feel silly about it.

Better to acknowledge that it would bug you than to wish it was a different color every time you used it, which might even lead to decreased use. Especially if you hid it out of sight.

I've certainly done that with clothes. And I bet you have too. Added together, we spend a lot more on clothes than a single small appliance.

True dat. I do hope that having one that feels like it fits in my kitchen, both visually and space-wise, will make me more likely to use the white one in the new house.

I bet having made the swap will make you want to use it more to justify the effort and the public exposure. And once you use if more, you will use it more without thinking.

I deliberately trick myself that way all the time by involving another person in something I want to do as a goal but won't want to do when the time comes (I'm looking at you exercise)
