Our stuff is here! We have clothes and dishes
and towels and pillows and photo albums and books and Trivial Pursuit and
CDs and a chair and lots, lots more! It's so exciting! And it makes the
place start to feel like we really do live here, to wander around the flat
and see our very own things.
Our new bookcases were delivered around 2pm on Monday. I spent the rest of
the afternoon running errands and ended up at Barbara's to log on and try
to get some of my online errands done, too. I picked up Chinese take away
and then had a horrible time trying to get a cab and ended up taking the
tube home. Oh well. Jason and I went to the grocery store together after
dinner, which was fun.
On Tuesday the truck arrived with our stuff just after ten and they got it
all moved in within an hour. We had some lunch and then dove in and managed
to get the kitchen and bathroom set up and our clothes put away and Jason's
computer up and running before we ran out of steam. I even convinced him to
play an inaugural game of Trivial Pursuit, which he won.
He went up to the office today and I supervised the delivery of our new
washer and dryer (the old one had two problems: it was only a washer and it
didn't work) and then puttered around covering the big window on the stairs
with the curtain (ok, it was meant to be a bedspread, but it works really
well) we got in Greenwich and doing laundry and shopping for dinner.
We had our first dinner guest! Barbara came over to see the flat--she
agreed that it's not a terrible yellow and any one room is okay, it's just
the whole place being the same color that's wearing, but we agreed that
we'll get used to it and at least it's a cheery place to escape from the
grey London days. I made my pan fried salmon filets in lemon caper sauce
with garlic herb rice and sugar snap peas and a salad. After dinner I
convinced Barbara to stay for Trivial Pursuit and then had an amazing first
turn (I got all six pieces in one go!) so it was a quick game.
She toddled off in her blue MG convertible--gosh, that's a cute car!--
and I raced back in to log on. It's so good to hear from all of you.
Oh, you can see our flat, in all its yellow glory at
