lillibet The last afternoon in Florida was really excellent. We drove across the state to Boca Raton, where a high school buddy lives now. I hadn't seen Keith in sixteen years, but he's one of those people with whom time and distance means very little and within five minutes we were right back in our groove. He's the funniest person I've ever known and we play off each other very well. Jason really liked him and talked quite a bit, for him, although when I commented on that, Keith was like "this is chatty?!"
I spent the two hours at the airport making calls, checking in with family and friends. Michael called and we had a funny "Where are you?" "Ft. Lauderdale airport, you?" "Minneapolis airport. See you in baggage claim?" exchange.
Linda picked us up at the airport in my car. We dropped Michael off and went over to hang out with Tom & steve, which was lovely. Then we came back to my place and I made a list of all the presents we received. I plugged in for a while and finally dragged myself off to bed around four. Of course, our bed was covered in Christmas presents that had to be moved, a Good Problem to Have (tm).
It's very good to be home again. It wasn't horrible, but it's just not my scene. I realized that a major part of the problem is that I am very spoiled by the high level conversation and real interactions I have on a daily basis and making superficial conversation with people I don't know very well and skirting around all the dangerous topics for days on end just takes its toll. But it was good for Jason to bask in the bosom of his family and he put up with my complaints (made entirely in private and moderated as much as I possibly could) with equanimity.
I'm a very lucky woman and my problems are all pretty minor and there are a lot of very good and cool folk in my life and it's good to remember all of that.
