I haven't done one of these in a year or so and my flist has grown, so...

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want- good or bad. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or moritified) about what people remember about you.

I remember, toward the end of rehearsals of All in the Timing, helping out building sets one night (I think we were building the flats). Outside of my cast, I didn't really know anybody in Theatre@First too well, and I was feeling pretty shy. You were working on flats with me and drew me into a great conversation, and as we worked we talked about relationships and Robyn Hitchcock and directing and all kinds of stuff. I remember leaving that night thinking "Wow, I'm really making new friends in this group!" And it was true!

Washington, D.C., Worlds 2003. 1) Perfecting our system for taking notes on skating competitions: you with your Moleskine book and wonderfully neat and tiny writing making lots of great, skatenerdy symbols and me, identifying elements. (Or maybe it's "I" identifying elements. The grammar escapes me at the moment.) 2) staying up way too late at night in our hotel room talking about this, that, and everything else.

I remember talking to you at a party at Naomi's when you were still living in England or had recently returned from it - trying to think of a particular memory yielded a particularly vivid image of what end of the room we were sitting in, despite not having any vivid memory of the room itself. It was probably one of the first times we actually had a conversation. I had known many people who knew you well but for some reason *I* still felt like the shy, young, clueless person who someone as cool as you wouldn't want to talk to.

(I'm cheating here, I never copy these things into my own livejournal...)

Oh man, it was so hot that night! I remember leaving that party and going to see The Matrix for a second time, just to get some AC.

I think the first time I met you (and [livejournal.com profile] drwex as well, possibly), you two were living together and were hosting a reading of a book or a play. I can't remember which one, but I do remember thinking that you were really good at dramatic readings. :-}

Coming off stage after the perfect run of My Boyfriend's Wife and running around the side of the church to find you, knowing that you'd be as excited as I was and that you were the only other person in the world who knew what had just happened.

how you went out of your way to make the "Merry Wives" audition accessible. And the kindness and promptness of all your emails.

Yeah--hot tubbing with you really turned my frown upside down that night. I hope we'll both remember that party pleasantly for a long time to come.

"I thought you knew how to fly this thing!" I screamed from the cockpit, over the slumped form of the captain. Suddenly it all went blessedly quiet, and I breathed a sigh of relief. "We're out of fuel," you said.

Your calm, still presence directing a show: absolutely attending, setting expectations and urging us to improvement without ever descending to harshness. You are the eye of the theatrical hurricane: quiet, safe, and awesome.
