What's the best thing that's happened to you today?

Someone pointed me to an rpm ( that is, an easy installed ) for PHP5 with Oracle support. Yesterday I tried compiling it from scratch, and was still wading through all the "wah, wah, wah, I can't find this library" messages. Do I care about libraries and dependencies? No! All I want to do is get back to work! Thanks to the rpm I was able to get on with life. And the Oracle part behaved, so I could immediately talk with my database.

It's not exciting, but it made me very happy.

Finding a copy of a graded (perfect score) actual student answer to a prior Mass Bar exam essay question... and realizing that my practice answer to the same question was better!

Discovering that exercising in the morning is not as bad as I had thought.

Art cows!

I had jury duty downtown and when I got off the train at Govt Ctr in the morning there was a little mini-herd of Cow Parade statues waiting to make me laugh. At lunch, I went down to find the ones at Fanueil Hall.

the "beach picnic" themed potluck at work! not only was the decor very beachy (cheered up our basement kitchen/office), everyone got in the spirit of things, and my mini tuna cakes were one of two first dishes to run out! i had made 40 of them too for 20 people. hee!

I had dinner with my ex-MiL, first time we'd seen each other in something like 6 years (yow).

I'm really looking forward to hearing more about how that went, but if it was the best thing in your day, it can't have been bad! :)

I was finishing the latest Elizabeth George mystery. Right near the end, one of the main characters is struggling with hurt feelings because someone she considers a close friend didn't share with her some devastating personal news, and she had to hear it from a third party. She thinks of all the good reasons her friend had for not mentioning it, but, as George explains, that just gave her a "thin patina of guilt" to overlay the hurt feelings she already has.

And I realized: I'm not the only one who stumbles into these emotional paths to nowhere. Maybe they can even be admitted to, and dealt with, without shame.
