Play Suggestions?
Jul. 31st, 2006 12:20 amI've been asked by another community theatre group to suggest plays/musicals that they might do and since my head is entirely full of The Margaret Ghost (reminder, come to auditions!) I can't think of a single thing. I know I've got a lot of theatre buffs out there--what would you like to see performed in the area?

Date: 2006-07-31 05:21 am (UTC)It is rarely produced and is a lot of fun. I think if your community theater troupe is hoping to attract a younger (read: under 40) audience, they might consider it. If they're going for a "classic" audience, it won't help them much.
Go you for being the "go to" source for ideas for other theater companies. What a nice indicator of their respect for you as an artistic director.

Date: 2006-07-31 05:23 am (UTC)There are a bunch of great plays on my show list, actually... Arsenic, Lion in Winter, Cyrano, Brodie, It Runs In The Family, Earnest.
Equus and Arcadia are probably too hard, but wow, those are some SHOWS. Flea In Her Ear is hilarious. Oddly enough, I've never seen Our Town on stage.

Date: 2006-07-31 11:53 am (UTC)I have fond memories of a summer camp production of "Up the Down Staircase," (http://www.dramaticpublishing.com/catalogdetail.cfm?listcode=U12) which may be too juvenile for a traditional community group, but if looking for a filler play, this ought to work.
For a musical, how about "Once on this Island," (http://www.ahrensandflaherty.com/ooti.html) a Caribbean-based romance. My sister played Asaka in college and while I know it had a Broadway run, the musical's been quiet the past few years. Might be overwhelming for a community group, but maybe?

Date: 2006-07-31 11:58 am (UTC)And seeing Woody Allen's "God" performed in 1991 brought back memories; it was around the same year, maybe 1992, when the play was performed as part of a one-act festival in my high school. I forget if I was in "God" or a competing play (we actually competed in the plays for awards) but I remember the name.

Date: 2006-07-31 02:30 pm (UTC)'Forever Plaid' - 4 actors, one piano player, not much of a set...
This show is hugely popular and with Jersey Boys being such a hit now...
My 2 cents.
