I took
bex77 to lunch at Sandrine's yesterday, but nothing on the RW menu really appealed, so we went off piste and ordered salads and sandwiches from the regular menu instead. B's Vigneronne Salad (roasted bratwurst on a bed of greens with chopped cucumbers, Swiss cheese, tomatoes and grapes) was delicious and very different, while my own Caesar was basic and tasty. Her prosciutto tartine came with romaine, tomatoes, mozzarella and a lovely pesto on rustic bread--a wonderful combination of flavors and textures. My croque monsieur (a traditional baked ham & cheese sandwich) was the best I've ever had and the frites that accompanied both plates were light and crispy and delicious. For dessert, we split the peach melba--a poached peach with vanilla ice cream and berry compote--that made a nice finish to a delightful meal. With drinks, the bill was probably not more than $5 over what the RW menu would have cost us. I've been there a few times before and always have lovely meals.
In honor of
hammercock's birthday, we had dinner with a small gang of folk at Tangierino in Charlestown. While the food is wonderful, the experience is largely about the atmosphere--the dining room is draped in scarves and decorated with Moroccan motifs and we enjoyed lounging on couches around low tables and watching the belly dancer making her rounds. My meal started with the blazing beef tenderloin, small slices of aged and grilled tenderloin in a harissa teriyaki sauce with a roll of sesame-ginger vegetables that was good enough I wished there were three times as much. My main course was the lemony chicken tagine, robustly spiced and served with frites so tasty that J could not resist stealing them. For dessert, I had the trio of sorbets (mango, strawberry and lemon) and we got a pitcher of sweetened mint tea that the waiter poured out with great elan. Prices on their regular menu seem not outrageous and the ambience makes for a great romantic spot or a relaxing and fun night out with a big group.
Just one more and we're done!
