A gyro.

What's your favourite cheese?

English Cheddar.

What's your favourite fish?

Raw? Tuna. Cooked? Swordfish.

What's your favourite fruit?

Raspberries.

When, if ever, did you start liking olives?

When I lived in Mexico. But only green or purple ones--never black.

When, if ever, did you start liking beer?

In college, although it's still not my favorite thing.

When, if ever, did you start liking shellfish?

I've always loved shellfish. I have very fond memories of eating lobster as a very small child. The only shellfish I don't like is crab, which makes no sense to me, but there it is.


What was the best thing your mum/dad/guardian used to make?

Fried chicken with rice and gravy.

What's the native specialty of your home town?

Nothing in particular.

What's your comfort food?

Chicken noodle soup. Bologna & cheese sandwiches.

What's your favorite type of chocolate?

Snickers.

How do you like your steak?

As rare as it can take without being tough.

How do you like your burger?

Bacon cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, mayonaise on the bacon side and a little bit of ketchup on the other side.

How do you like your eggs?

However I can get 'em. Scrambled. Fried sunnyside up on toast. Devilled. In omelettes.

How do you like your potatoes?

Baked or scallopped.

How do you take your coffee?

Too much sugar.

How do you take your tea?

Two sugars and milk.

What's your favorite mug?

The Puffin/Nuffin one that Jason got me in England.

What's your biscuit or cookie of choice?

Samoas. Or soft-baked white chocolate macadamia.

What's your ideal breakfast?

eggs Benedict with a side of bacon.

What's your ideal sandwich?

Roast beef and cheese with mayo, lettuce and tomato, on a croissant.

Bologna and American cheese with mayo and tomato on white bread.

Smoked turkey and smoked gouda with mayo, mustard, lettuce and a little bit of onion on a sub roll.

What's your ideal pizza (topping and base)?

Classic pepperoni and mushroom.

What's your ideal pie (sweet or savory)?

Pumpkin or chicken.

What's your ideal salad?

Mixed greens, lots of tomato and cucumber, some carrots, broccoli, sprouts, ranch dressing.

Or the spinach salad at Sorrento.

What food do you always like to have in the fridge?

Sandwich-makings.

What food do you always like to have in the freezer?

Boneless chicken breasts. Bacon. Peas.

What food do you always like to have in the cupboard?

Soup.

What spices can you not live without?

Paprika, dill, saffron, cinnamon.

What sauces can you not live without?

Soy.

Where do you buy most of your food?

BJ's and Wilson Farms.

How often do you go food shopping?

About once a week, give or take.

What's the most you've spent on a single food item?

Probably the foie gras, but I don't remember what a single one cost.

What's the most expensive piece of kitchen equipment you own?

The Kitchenaid that we've never unpacked.

What's the last piece of equipment you bought for your kitchen?

A new strainer.

What piece of kitchen equipment could you not live without?

Chef's knife.

Once or twice a week, ideally.

Roast lamb.

lamb, buffalo, ostrich (does that count as poultry?), elk, moose, bear, boar, rabbit, squirrel, rattlesnake, turtle, alligator, snails, goat, lion, donkey

Recently, I imagine, although I can't remember when.

Oh, that's been a while--I try to avoid the wild.
