Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] derspatchel, I've been reading the often amusing [livejournal.com profile] bpdnews. Today I was especially taken with this entry from the Daily Incidents for March 17, 2007:

SHOULD’VE STAYED IN THE CAR

At about 6:40pm, on Friday, March 16, 2007, members of the Area A Neighborhood Drug Unit (East Boston) were driving their unmarked cruiser in East Boston when they were forced to abruptly stop their car after being cut off by another motor vehicle. After cutting in front of the unmarked cruiser, the operator of the other motor vehicle then began yelling at the officers. According to the officers, the suspect in this situation began yelling, ”What the (expletive) are you doing .. you (double expletive).” Since the officers were en route to a drug investigation, they asked the suspect to simply move his car. However, instead of moving his motor vehicle, the suspect instead jumped out of it and yelled, “Oh yeah .. mother (expletive).” At this point, the officers began to exit their unmarked cruiser. As they were doing so, the suspect reached into his car and pulled out what appeared to be a wooden club. The suspect then raised the club in a threatening manner and began walking towards the officers. At this point, the officers identified themselves as Boston Police Officers. To which the suspect replied, "Oh (expletive).” Officers then arrested Domenic Screnci, 27, of East Boston and charged him with Assault By Means of a Dangerous Weapon.

oh YES.

This has TOTALLY made my day.

You always wish the cops are around when you need 'em. HA!

This moron SO deserves every book thrown at him, since it's pretty darn likely that he's like that all the time and has threatened folks in the past (he *did* have a weapon, just so handily in his car). Clearly he needs to be taught that threatening folks isn't ok and that he needs to deal with his anger issues.

I hope they gave him a traffic ticket too.

I want to smack that reporter. If any of the drug dealers saw that, they can now recognize three officers and an unmarked car. Another moment of short-sighted brilliance for freedom of the press.

Um, I don't think this is "the press," since BPD News is put out by the police--I assume it's one of their PR people writing it. They do regularly describe incidents involving non-uniformed police/cars, so I would guess that the brass have decided it's ok.
