I found this report from Education Week interesting. You can get a PDF of the specific numbers for your school district and I learned some things about Arlington that are good to know. The report also included this map of national rates by state:

Our school has a pretty high drop-out rate. I don't need to look it up. It's something like 50%. I can see this by our 35 seniors who are actually graduating this year, as opposed to the 75 or so in our freshmen class. Not all of them drop out in between though, so that's kind of misleading. Many take more than 4 years, or end up going to an alternative school, night school, or getting their GED. So there is hope for many of our kids.

The Gates Foundation seems to have sponsored this research. Coincidentally (but not surprisingly), they are also the ones who are funding a substantial part of our school's budget.

One of the interesting things in the Arlington report was that we lose a significantly smaller number in 9th grade than the state average, where 9th grade seems to be the big loser.

I note that this map has 'red states' and 'blue states'. I'm just sayin'.
