Ah, to be young and French
Sep. 13th, 2007 05:39 pmOne of our friends spent the summer working at the MIT day camp, where many of the kids are offspring of foreign scholars. One of her five year old charges was a very sweet French boy.
One day she asked the kids what their favorite foods were. The American kids quickly shouted out "hot dogs!" "french fries!" and "potato chips!" After a moment of contemplation, the French boy said "A nice piece of sole with a light caper sauce."

Date: 2007-09-14 10:22 pm (UTC)That reminds me of a scene in Truffaut's L'argent de poche, when two brothers let their parents sleep in and make themselves breakfast.
Nice to hear some things haven't changed.

Date: 2007-09-15 02:10 am (UTC)nurture is not the only thing that dictates how a kid is going to eat. maybe by 5 her eating habits will be back in line with ours, but if they're not, I dearly hope it's not *all* because we're on american soil and haven't made pizza and french fries a forbidden evil.
