Jason's Aunt Kelly has breast cancer. His mom writes:

"Kelly has breast cancer and will be going in for surgery in the next 10 days. She has had a cyst for many years which started changing in May. She went to the Dr a week or so ago, there was concern and a needle biopsy was done. The result indicated a stage 2, aggressive carcinoma, the long name of which I can't remember. So, she and Randy will be meeting with another Dr Monday. At some point, she'll have a dye injection to track where tissue might be pathological and have a lumpectomy, followed by 6 mos of chemo."

six months of chemo?!?! Yikes! Are you sure it isn't six weeks? I'm surprised the doctors would want to go that long for a stage 2 patient.

PS.For some people, peppermint tea tends to help with nausea.

It's probably not 6 straight months every day chemo - my sister was diagnosed in Oct 2000 (at 26 and as a personal trainer/modern dancer in the best health of her life other than - yakno the cancer thing) with Stage 2 and had 6 months of chemo then 6 months of radiation therapy. Her chemo was 1 - 4hr drip of adrymicyn/citoxin every 3 weeks for the first 3 months and then a 3 or 4 hr drip of taxol (or maybe tamoxifin) every three weeks for the next 3 months and then daily (m-f) radiation for 6 months. So ultimately it was 6 weeks of chemo but across 6 months if that makes sense.

Then put on lupron for 3 years to put her in a chemically induced menopause (because she had an estrogen positive form of breast cancer). Now she takes preventative tamoxifin.

As you saw in my response to lionsburg I've got some experience with this from my sister. I'm thinking good thoughts for his Aunt Kelly and if you have any questions feel free to ask - I don't know it all but I may have good sources of info.
