A decline in blogging is discussed in this article, with the suggestion that mini-blogging may be the Next Big Thing. And I just wanted to say to everyone on my f-list that I enjoy reading your entries and hope you'll keep at it!

Ditto. Sometimes I might just scan people's entries (depending on subject, length and my available reading time, etc.), but I love that my friends write full-on posts. I don't necessarily mind the Twitter posts--and some of my friends do it better than others, at least in terms of information and personal voice--but I really like, for instance, your daily goings on. Even if I don't get to see you every day--and by the way, we should see each other soon, at least so that I can give you The Prestige--I still can stay caught up in your life. And the occasional deep, philosophical ponderings of my friends can be entertaining or thought-provoking as well. Vive le blog!

Thanks and yes, that's it exactly. And yes, we should really make a plan--would you be up for an after-work visit to the playground sometime?

Ooh, I'd love a trip to the playground! This week is tons of busy, but I might be able to make a day next week.

Sounds good. After you get moved, let me know.

God save us all from Twitter. LJ may be a hotbed of junior-high-school-grade narcissism and recrimination, but at least it allows for expression at some length. Microblogging makes my skin crawl.

I'm with you on that!

(grins) I suspect my little bubble of the social 'net is atypical in this respect, and always will be.

The media are always looking for the next big thing. It's equally possible that 15.5 million blogs (I'm assuming, in the US--and there's a parochial view of the world, eh?) are the limit because there are no more people who want to write.

No more than 5% of Americans are willing and/or able to write consistently about themselves? Sure, I can buy that.

Next we'll be reading how twittering is yesterday's news.

Oh, yes, certainly. My subject line was at least 14/15ths tongue-in-cheek.

But it seemed like a good occasion for me to say "I value what you do and vote that you keep doing it!"

Oh, definitely.

My precipituous decrease in post frequency over the past year (ish) has correlated well with the trends to which you bring our attention here. However, in my case, it's just correlation, not causality. :-)

Coming back atcha live, from the station with no music and more teenage girls than commercials, it's the Wes and Elizabeth show!
