One of the principles of organization of which I frequently have to remind myself is to allot yourself a given volume of space in which to store an item--the amount of your finite space you are willing to cede to having things of that category--and when you exceed that amount of space, prune mercilessly.

I have a large moving box in which I store smaller boxes in which to wrap gifts. I just found myself trying to figure out how to store more than would fit in that box. Now I'm breaking the excess down for the recycling pile.

I struggle ENDLESSLY with that rule re: books. But it's a good one--does it come from a particular source or is it sort of common knowledge?

No particular source--it's usually on the list of "Top Ten Organizing Tips" whenever I happen across one. But, like Peedie, sometimes I forget.

And yeah, books are the biggest challenge. Doing a round of pruning is on my To Do list for this week, right after taking down the Christmas decorations. I console myself that my library is becoming better and better over time!

This is Peedie. Peedie is a gosling. A small, yellow gosling who sometimes forgets things.

I'm currently doing this with yarn. I want it all to fit into one shelving unit, neatly stacked. This is my goal by the end of the year.

It's been a nice impetus to keep knitting for charity, because I can make nice thick sweaters for little kids in very cold places, and use up good sized chunks of the stash.

Less clutter, more giving, and more knitting. Yay.
