I have a very small core group of friends in real life.
However as one who appears to have an extraordinary amount of online "friends", I should note very few of my Facebook, Twitter and certainly LinkedIn contacts can be considered as true friends I spend a lot of real time with as the article describes them.
Those who have read Tipping Point will understand the term "Connector Maven". I build and foster virtual networks and communities so I carefully classify the folks I connect to and try to limit the data the different groups have access to.
I think that's an important differentiator - defining and categorizing trust relationships. Friends vs acquaintences vs family vs collegue vs peer and classify what parts of your virtual life they get access based on that.
