Here's a great article from the New York Times about why investing in women is vital. A lot of it will be 'well, duh' for my readers, but it's the sort of information that I want to become common knowledge.
I've put a chunk of money into microloans via www.kiva.org; it feels kind of like a charitable donation despite being a "loan", but it's one that I can actually see working, which is cool.
I can't tell you how pleased I am to see this conversation going mainstream. The Hunger Projedct, the non-profit that I'm involved with, has been working based on these pinciples for the last decade. It's one of the amny reasons I'm so happy to send my money their way.
It's also completely selfish of me - I believe western women will never acheive full equality whilst there is still a conversation in some parts of the world that women and girls are lesser beings.
