I'm in the process of proposing that Theatre@First should do a series of staged readings in 2010. At the moment my working title is Bare Bones: Staged Readings at Theatre@First. Some people hate this name, but no one's come up with something better.

The objections are that it promises too little, that the name needs to get across that it's an intense and deep way to experience a play. I was thinking simple, spare, reduced to it's core.

Got a better idea?

Peeling Back Layers/The Skin? The Bone of the Meat (as opposed to the Meat of the Bone)? More Stuff, Less Fluff? At the Core of the Apple?

Just some ideas off the top of my head that denote richness without sacrificing quality or volume per se.

"Pith and Marrow"

(From Hamlet a1s4)

I love it! I was going to propose using the word "essence" and calling it Dramatic Essences or something. But I love Pith and Marrow: it's short, has a theatrical genesis, and arouses curiosity.

The word "Raw' might get at some of the connotations you're looking at? Not sure how you want to use it/incorporate it, though.

Yeah, I like this idea. Something like "In the Raw: Staged Readings at Theatre@First".

I like that too. I had been thinking "Naked Theatre" but this captures is a little less... misleadingly :)

I'm not sure it does, frankly! I would totally think it meant Naked Theatre if I saw this advertised under this title. :-}

I was thinking of something like "Naked Words".

The first thought into my head was to capitalize on the popularity of acoustic live acts by using the term "unplugged", but I'm not sure how that translates.

Just simply Bare is kind of evocative.

"Distilled" and "concentrated" are the words that come to mind, but they're not resolving themselves into something specific.

How about 'Reading Down to the Bones' or 'Down to the Bones: Stage Readings at Theatre@First'?

Although I quite like Pith and Marrow....
