This is not surprising to me, but it is heartening. I've seen this shift in my writing classes since, say, 2004. Back then, there was something like a 50-50 split in views. Last year, I had a student who wanted to write pro-gay marriage argumentative essay. The problem: no one disagreed. It was hell trying to generate any counterarguments that didn't sound ridiculous to everyone.
