So I'm going gray. I'm entirely okay with that--my class dean at Wellesley had this beautiful gray braid that I aspire to. I've been kind of curious how noticeable it is to other people, mostly because I'm interested in how other people perceive me, and there will come a point (still a ways off) when it will stop being appropriate to describe myself as brown-haired. I have a good friend who was a redhead and it was sort of startling this last time I saw her to realize that's no longer the case--her hair looks great, it's a nifty sort of sandy color now, but when scanning a crowd for a redhead you won't find her. I've asked a couple of people and gotten variations on the response "No, no, you're not going gray, you look so young! Don't worry about it!" and my response is basically, "Hey, if your hair suddenly started growing in purple, you'd notice, wouldn't you?"
