Tonight I went to the gym. It's the first time I've set foot there in four months and the first time I've done more than yoga class in seven.

There was a brief moment of panic when they thought they had given away my locker and pitched all my stuff, but it turned out the computer was in error. Then I realized that I had forgotten to bring shorts, but fortunately the Burlington Coat Factory had black jersey boxers for $7.

I did half an hour on the treadmill--and realized why I prefer the mill to all the other cardio options: it sets the pace for me. On everything else I have to keep myself at it and I can zone out and just forget to go fast enough to keep my heart rate up. On the mill, I set it for four miles an hour, take out my book and try not to fall off. After that I did a simple round of 1x15s on the TechnoGym and found that my strength hasn't fallen off as much as I had feared. I tried it 10 lbs. down from my last strength-training session and that was pretty much fine.

I'd like to get back into yoga there, but of the five instructors, the only one I've never tried is on Friday mornings at 9 am. Anyone want to place bets on the likelihood of my being at the gym at 9 am? The others have all annoyed me in the past and the one who teaches at the most convenient time is the one who annoys me the most, sad to say. I really miss my former instructors--I had a run of two good ones at a convenient time.

But I went to the gym! Now I just have to try to get back in the habit.
