Quite the weekend

On Friday evening we had dinner with
muffyjo and
wrynathan, who was in town from Oakland and apparently brought the weather with him. We went to Chez Henri early enough to just walk in and sit down and had a wonderful meal.
We started with a round of extra-minty mojitos that went down a treat.
muffyjo and
wrynathan both chose the same options from the prix fixe menu, the duck confit and mission fig tartlette and the pan roasted pork tenderloin with bacon and chanterelle risotto. They were generous, so I got to experience both--the duck and fig tart was divine and it was one of the best pork dishes I've ever eaten in a restaurant, incredibly juicy and flavorful.
jason237 took the other prix fixe options--a tomato and feta salad with some marvelously rich tasting tomatoes and wonderfully creamy cheese and then the seared bluefish with eggplant that was also quite tasty. I had the gambas al horno, shrimp baked with garlic butter and roasted tomatoes--a pain to peel, but very tasty--followed by the evening's special, seared sea scallops with grilled squash of some kind. We were really all too full for dessert, but it was included in the prix fixe, so the boys ordered the lemon creme brulee, while
muffyjo had the sampler of raspberry, passionfruit and lime sorbets, all of which came with one of the least dry biscotti I've ever had. It's always great to be with
muffyjo and a real pleasure to have the chance to catch up with
wrynathan--who is looking fantastic--and hear the news of the Bay Area contingent.
We had to cut our time with him short, because we were due at the Harvard Arena for the 35th Annual Evening with Champions, a benefit for the Jimmy Fund organized by Eliot House and hosted by 1992 Olympic Silver Medalist Paul Wylie. Although the list of skaters this year was not as interesting as in previous years--most of the senior eligible skaters on the schedule scratched and many had other commitments--there were some nice routines, notably by Evan Lysachek and Wylie himself, whose return to skating after several years off the ice is a very welcome development.
muffyjo hadn't seen live skating since a youthful trip to the Ice Capades and seemed to really enjoy herself. It's always fun to share the joy of live figure skating with an appreciative friend. The event was woefully under-attended and we spent a while brainstorming about what they should do to improve it.
Saturday was the First Church/Theatre@First Fall Work Day. A bunch of volunteers from both worked together to accomplish a lot of work, including taking out one of the pews in the sanctuary and clearing out various storage areas with the result that we now have a closet to call our own. It was great to see everyone working together! After the work was done we came home and I took a much-needed nap before heading over to
plumtreeblossom's place for a T@F spaghetti supper. The food was good and it was nice to relax and see the various parts of the cast getting acquainted. After a few hours there, we went on to the nearby home of
androidqueen, where we partied the night away. I didn't get to bed until about 4:30 am and was very puzzled when my body insisted that it was awake at 8:30! I got up and grogged around the house for a bit. I couldn't find my mobile, so I asked Jason to call it and see if we could hear it rining--and one of the folks at the party-house answered it! So I had a brief detour on the way back to First Church.
Today was devoted to costuming. There were eighteen people from the cast, crew and church and we flew through the fabric, getting everything we plan to make at least to the stage of "just needs sewing". Our chief costumer and
earthling177 took everything with them and will be getting together this week to keep at it. Huge props to everyone involved for an amazing and productive session. Now we just have to set up a time to dye everything!
By the time we cleaned up, I was exhausted, so I passed up sushi to head home. I've had a nap and have just spent a few hours curled up on the couch with my sweetie, watching silly tv and chowing down Chinese take-away. Going back to bed seems pretty exciting at the moment, so that's probably next on the agenda. We've got an exciting week in rehearsals--our first stumble-thru tomorrow night and then the rest of the week will be spent attacking problem areas that we identify there. It will be great to see the whole thing on its feet for the first time!
