I meant to post this on Monday night, but if you're not planning to audition for You Can't Take It With You tonight and you don't have rehearsal for The Unexpected Guest, then you really should go see Rebekah Maggor's one-woman show, Shakespeare's Actresses in America.

Rebekah works with [livejournal.com profile] bex77 (who is acknowledged in the program, because she's so awesome!) and is an incredibly talented actress and writer. In this show (based on her thesis project), she presents speeches from Romeo & Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew, Macbeth and Hamlet, in the characters of a range of Shakespearean actors. While it was a treat to see famous pre-cinema actors like Sarah Bernhardt and Ellen Terry, I think my favorites were actors whose work I know: Mary Pickford, Elizabeth Taylor and Claire Danes. Rebekah's ability to change her movement and voice to mimic the styles of these actors is simply stunning. Even if you're not overly familiar with the source material and have never heard of any of the actors she's playing, I think it's still marvelously entertaining. And it's free!

Get thee hence! Avaunt! Fly!
