Restaurant Week: Olives
Aug. 26th, 2006 12:07 amFor our final meal of Restaurant Week we went to Olives with
muffyjo and
heliopsis. It was really packed and noisy, but we were shown right to our table. Service was somewhat slow between courses, but that just gave us time to enjoy the conversation. For starters, Jo and John both had the crispy sweetbreads with bacon, honey, aged sherry vinegar and "pome de pome". I had a bite and found them to be mostly just crispy and tasting of the accompanying flavors, rather than the basic contents. J. was underwhelmed by the Caesar salad with garlic-marinated chicken thigh, but I quite enjoyed my pan-seared scallops with heirloom tomato and creamy brandade. For mains, Jo had the Montrachet goat cheese and ricotta ravioli with toasted walnuts, arugula and pear--a creamy delight of flavors. The rest of us all took the wood-grilled balsamic skirt steak with two jumbo shrimp on a bed of creamy polenta and endive, which was richly flavored and tender. None of us could resist the peach crisp with sweet corn ice cream and caramel, which made an excellent end to our meal.
In the next day or so I'll try to do a wrap-up and let you all know our general thoughts on the fifteen restaurants we've visited in the past two weeks.
