On the move: Boston
Oct. 24th, 2000 03:21 pmJason and I had dinner at Tom & steve's on Saturday evening with Jeff &
Kelly and their daughter, Susan. She really is a bundle of joy in many
ways. steve shared his amusing realization that they were entertaining the
Fabijanics and the Merrills that evening--just like we were grown ups or
something. Dinner consisted of a lovely spinach salad with bacon bits and
grape tomatoes, steve's cheddar & onion scones (which are the tastiest
scones I've ever had), and chicken breasts in a wine sauce, with steve's
Ultra-Vanilla Cheesecake for dessert. With such pleasant food and company,
things ran late and by the time I could have left it was after ten, so I
decided it didn't make sense to head up to North Reading for Francie's
birthday party, unfortunately. I am hoping to see her before I leave town.
On Sunday we introduced John, Mike, Rachel and Jonathan Drummey to the
wonder that is Carlo's. The wait was unreasonable, but the service was
quick once we sat down. I had their gnocchi spezzatino again and it was, if
anything, even better. Jason very much enjoyed his chicken saltimboca (with
prosciutto & fontina in a sage cream sauce). I ran Jason to the airport
afterwards, then came home and fell asleep immediately. I woke up for a
couple of hours at five, then went back to sleep until noon.
On Monday I had lunch at Bread & Circus with Ben Levy & Ann Muir Thomas and
then we saw _Bedazzled_, a remake of the Dudley Moore/Peter Cooke film,
starring Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley. As one reviewer noted, she
couldn't act her way out of a paper bag, but since she was usually wearing
less than that, it was okay. Overall, I'd say it was goofy and fun.
After the movie I picked Anne & G. up at her office and we had a quick
dinner at Coyote in One Kendall Square. I had the lobster bisque and a
chicken quesadilla, both of which were unremarkable. G's pasta in cream
sauce with chicken, sundried tomatoes and portabellos looked tasty. We went
back to their place and Anne showed me pretty things for an hour. She had to
make an appearance at an MIT function, so I dropped her back there and she
met us back at the condo in less than an hour to sit down and decide which
pictures they want to order. Charles and his wife, Jennifer, came in and we
chatted for a while. She seems like a very fun person. She did her LDS
mission in Tokyo and talked about that a little while making gratifying
comments about our wedding pictures.
Today I ran a couple of errands and then met Dave Policar at the Au Bon Pain
in Kendall Square for a late lunch and a nice walk & talk. I took a nap and
then had take-out (a chicken enchilada) with Mike & John while the three of
us, plus Mags, Bob and Matthew watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which was
fun.
They ran off to see _Dancer in the Dark_ and I have intentions of showering
and packing and getting to bed at a reasonable hour. Ha. Jason called and
we talked about some of the London logistics, which are creeping up on us.
It was so good to hear his voice.
