1) Total number of books owned.
I'm guessing about 2000, once you throw in the kids books, drama and travel books. I work pretty hard to keep my collection "clean" by donating to the rummage sale anything I wouldn't read again or recommend.
2) The last book I bought.
The Sagas of Iceland
3) The last book I read.
Lord Valentine's Castle by Robert Silverberg. I'm partway through Peter Mayle's Encore Provence now.
4) 5 books that mean a lot to me?
Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
The Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay
House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende
The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood
Anthropologist on Mars by Oliver Sacks
1) Total number of films I own on DVD/video:
I have so no idea. They're in milk crates in the tool room--there are 3 crates. We've got a lot of stuff on VHS that was taped from TV. People give them to us. Of DVDs we've purposely decided to own, there are 3 or 4 TV series and maybe 10 movies. I try not to buy them.
2) The last film I bought:
The Jennifer Ehle/Colin Firth Pride & Prejudice on DVD, maybe? That was a year or two ago.
3) The last film I watched:
Film? Maybe the ROTK extended version? Oh, no, I think we watched Lost Souls via Netflix. Mostly we just don't find the time to watch movies at home.
4) Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me: [In no particular order, and this list may change at any time]
Bend It Like Beckham (tho' I don't own it)
Sense & Sensibility
Impromptu
Star Wars
The Matrix
5) Tag 5 people and have them put this in their journal:
Any 5 people who care to do so.

Date: 2005-05-25 03:56 pm (UTC)the second book in the first trilogy - Majipoor Chronicles - effectively takes the form of a collection of short stories and was, by far, my favorite of the Majipoor books. (the recent - maybe two years ago - trilogy really was kind of stinky.
Silverberg has done some great stuff over the years, though. Dying Inside was amazing. Much more recently, I enjoyed Roma Eterna - a collection of short stories stepping through both past and future history in a world where the Roman Empire didn't fall.

Date: 2005-05-26 12:03 am (UTC)I've an odd situation wrt a book at the moment - I need a long, interesting *compact* book - I'm heading out on a long hike and need to minimize weight and size, but would hate to finish my book along the way. On a previous hike, I brought and read most of the Illiad, which was wonderful (except that during the hike, I did serious damage to an Achilles Heel - gads - if I'd brought the Odyssey, I'm afraid that the hike would have taken 20 years!). Last time around, I took a book which I'd really like to read, but I just never got momentum going on it. So, what to bring? Oy, to have to choose a book based on size and weight!
